reflection

Currently, we were able to finish most of what needs to be done. The report and voting box re done, along with the video. the product and the powerpoint slide are near completion and most should be ready by the next IPW session.

term 2 week 4 reflection

1. What you know about your project product.

I know that our product would help stop global warming

2. What you think the direction your group should be taking.

I think my group is on the right track and should be close to completing the project soon

3. What you have learnt about the product.

I have learnt that global warming is affecting us in our daily lives

4. What you would be doing to improve on the product.

I would make sure my product is strong and durable and most importantly eco-friendly

reflection(edited)

the project is a board game designed to convey the message of global warming. it tells us the causes and effects of global warming and how we con prevent it. it is based on shakes and ladders.
We will be on the direction of global warming. we have just a bit more to go.
I have learnt that the product can make people more aware of global warming.
we could paint the product to make it more interesting.

Term 2 Week 4

I know that our group would be doing a game which promotes global warming. Creating the game. It helps to promote global warming.Doing more research

reflection

A lot has been done. I did the blueprint for a board game. we intend to do a board game to show the effects of global warming.

Worksheet 4 Part 4

Week 8

I have learnt important life skills and hope to apply them during work next time. We have completed all our task and are trying to improve them,

Worksheet 4 Part 3

Worksheet 4 Part 2

week 9

Not much was done today. we finalized the plans for our board game, basically. we intend to gat a cardboard board from popular bookstore and we got issac, a team member to create questions for the board game based on collected information.

The game

The rough sketch on how it roughly look like

Reflection (9/2/10)

Today, Wen Kai and me did some research on greenhouse gases, effects of it and how it happens.
This is what we found:

The greenhouse effect is caused by an atmosphere containing gases and emitting infrared radiation. However, the earth is currently suffering from greenhouse radiation, because human machinery has been producing a lot of atmospheric gases. The main four gases contributing to enhanced greenhouse radiation are water vapour(36-70%), carbon dioxide(9-26%), methane(4-9%) and the ozone(3-7%) gases.

When the sun shines on earth, about 50% of the heat energy is trapped by the atmosphere. The more humans contribute to greenhouse gases, the more heat is trapped. The more heat is trapped, the higher the average temperature of the earth. The higher the temperature of the earth, the easier the icebergs melt. And like in what was said last week, once the ice melts, the water level will increase, causing flash floods.

What humans mainly contribute to the greenhouse effect is the carbon dioxide gas. We all breathe in oxygen and give out carbon dioxide. Usually, trees performing photosynthesis will be able to counteract the carbon dioxide gases. However, with deforestation and the burning of fossil fuels, there are now less trees to counteract the increase in carbon dioxide. Fossil fuel burning only add on to the carbon dioxide. Carbon dioxide is an atmospheric gas, it will absorb and emit more and more thermal infrared. To help reduce the rate of the Earth's temperature increase, we can switch to more eco-friendly alternatives of lifestyle, like using less charcoal, fossil fuels and paper.

Reflection

I have completed the worksheet and have a basic understanding on how to start the project

chung wen kai's reflection

today, we basically compeleted the worksheet passed to us. I did a bit more research into global warming, espically the melting polar ice.

Reflection 3/2/10

Today we did our research on causes and effects of global warming. As we know, we would not want to be in a period where global warming is affecting us. What we can do is to find out what and why it is affecting is and try to help. We found that if global warming is not being controlled, the polar ice caps would melt, increasing the level of the ocean. Consequences are that coastal cities would be flooded and more oceanic disasters would happen. There would also be higher frequency of water-born diseases like Malaria, Dengue and West Nile virus.

melting ice

Melting Ice

According to most research, over the past 100 years, there has been a half degree of temperature increase in the earth's average temperature. This may sound like nothing, but every degree has a adverse effect on our earth's temperature. The subject todays is melting polar caps.

Basically the polar ice float by displacing large amounts of water. However, with the increase in temperature, the ice are falling into the ocean and when the ice falls, it displaces a certain amount of water and increase the water height.

Though the ice caps are the seemingly most likely to melt, that is not true. Greenland is more a possibility. If it melts, it would add 7 metres to the sea level.

Scientists predict that by 2100, sea levels would rise by a max of 20 inches, and this would have a major impact on coastal cities.

Week 2 reflection

After reading wen kai's post, i have thought about the products we could make, like a product that can reduce the rate of global warming, or a video or podcast to warn people of the consequences if we do not stop global warming.

Week 2 Reflection

This week, we did our research on global warming, which is our title.
We divided our jobs and allocated positions to each of our members.

Bryan Chong- Leader
Chung Wen Kai- Researcher
Ryan Chin- Editor and posts most of the research.
Isaac Chan- Lessons downloader and research assistant.

Week 2 Reflection

Global warming technically speaks of the changing climate around us. It is caused by the greenhouse effect and that causes the world to warm up. Basically, the heat gets trapped by the carbon dioxide gases and only some heat gets reflected to space. The increase in cars which are powered by fuel also adds more carbon dioxide around the atmosphere, making the weather even hotter eventually.

The ozone layer is also depleting due to the increase in carbon dioxide. If the ozone is completely depleted, we could be facing extreme heat and ultraviolet rays from the sun, which from the radiation from the sunlight could kill us.

The increase in temperature around the globe will also melt the polar caps. Hence, water level in the seas would rise. This could cause flash floods and kill millions, especially those living in coastal areas.

Another factor contributing to global warming is the action of cutting down trees. Trees as we know, helps balance the percentage of carbon dioxide and oxygen in the atmosphere. With lesser trees, the efficiency of the trees balancing the percentage would be deeply affected.

We can help to save our world by re-using, re-cycling and reduce the need for materials. With everyones' help, we can help do our part in saving our world.
